Educate your Clientele
on Lawn and Landscape Care
As an ACCREDITED ORGANIC LAWN CARE PROFESSIONAL dealing with a diverse selection of clientele on a daily basis, I firmly believe in Educating the Client. Within the “green” industry there lies a unique challenge. Take for example a plumber arrives to fix a broken pvc pipe, the replacement pipe will almost certainly function as should and the client is focused only upon one issue – Will it work?
However, when it comes to lawn and organic lawn care; will it work has many variables, many of which are dependent upon some degree of knowledge within the client and/or owner. In addition, and more importantly, lawn-care and landscape contractors often deal with sites that have poor soils and drainage, too much sunlight or shade, or no irrigation.
All of these factors can affect the subsequent health and development of the plant material, perhaps resulting in unsatisfactory performance or appearance. Thus, unlike the plumber who only has to dig a trench and lay the pipe, you must consider all of these conditions implementing a lawn care or landscape maintenance program. You also must deal with clients who may not have the background to understand why a landscape and/or lawn is not living up to their expectations and whether their expectations are realistic.
A survey conducted on behalf of the NALP show that of the 78% of adults report having a home with a lawn and/or landscape, 64% falsely believe all grass needs to be fertilized every spring, 57% mistakenly think if a lawn is not green it is not healthy, 32% admit that aren’t sure how often to water their lawn, and 31% reported not having a clue about lawn and/or landscaing care and maintenance.
As such, Lincoln Landscaping encourages an open dialogue and education within all our clientele and provides educational events for children at various functions within the Bergen County New Jersey area.
