Recently we obtained a new client whom had just purchased a beautiful home in Bergen County, N.J. The residence itself was immaculate, however the outside property area was somewhat neglected with regards to the lawn and bed areas. As it was the start of the gardening season, their number one priority was establishing a garden area with raised beds as they wished to grow their own vegetables and herbs and practice sustainable landscaping utilizing organic principles.

As there was an existing patio area with an outdoor gas grill for cooking and entertaining, we chose a spot right off the patio so they had easy access to their herbs for their culinary concoctions. We removed the lawn area right off the patio, raked, leveled and tamped the subsoil and then laid out a fabric base for weed prevention. We then laid out the ten raised beds in a functional design and used our own composted soil for a growing medium; with complete and easy access to each raised bed and then covered the fabric with small white decorative stone.

The client was so elated with the results that on the other side of patio they had us do a thorough cleanup, regrade the patio for proper drainage and then transplant some native plants there. We then placed new patio furniture and a table to create a nice clean and inviting atmosphere around the existing patio.
