Municipal Landscaping with Native Plants
The South Plainfield Middle School approached Lincoln Landscaping to update the front entrances to the Middle school. Establishing our expertise; we advised the Board of Education to use all native plants trees and perennials. What better place to establish a pollinator-friendly garden featuring native plants that attract and provide a habitat for birds, bees, larval and adult forms of butterflies and moths, and other beneficial insects.
Not only is it fairly simple to learn the basics, but it also can be a very rewarding and educational experience for any child who has shown an interest in gardening. We will work with this school to teach teachers and students many valuable environmental principles.
Within the scope of this sustainable landscaping project existed a heavily shaded front entrance, where nothing would grow except a few azaleas. Further compounding this difficult situation; within the area of the large overhang, the existing bed is extremely dry. Carefully placing moss boulders we transplanted the previously dug out azalea amidst the backside of the boulders within this bed.
The variety and species of native plants utilized encompassed a diverse and numerous number of perennials, trees and shrubs throughout all the beds. The only non native is myrtle for winter ground-cover interest. A list of the native plant species we utilized may be found below the project pictures.
