The entrance to the Elmwood Park Memorial school has a difficult and unique planting area that’s completely under a roof, and gets absolutely no water or light The school board asked me to design a functional planting, that will survive; again, the area was an eyesore.
Beginning with three boulders, that we placed in a triangular fashion, jutting out from one another, the boulders are covered with moss, and now are a focal point in the planting.
Using native fern and some evergreen myrtle as a ground cover, the planter now has beauty, and is functional, the kids can enter into a pleasant environmentand. It has been proven that the school environment has a huge role in young adults, in relation to their interests and grades.
