Sustainable Landscaping – Green Living

Lincoln Landscaping was honored to be a participant in the Hawthorne N.J. 8th Annual Green Fair. The purpose of the fair is to educate the community about sustainability—social, economic and environmental aspects—as well as buying locally, resource conservation, and health and wellness.

On behalf of the Hawthorne Green Team, we would like to thank you for participating in our 8th Annual Green Fair at the Farmers’ Market.  We love working and recognizing our partners at our Green events.  It was a beautiful day and a good crowd.

I look forward to continue working with you on our Green projects!

Lincoln Landscaping and Goffle Brook Farms shared  a booth, promoting native plants in the landscape. Goffle Brook Farms contributed the decorations and plenty of vegetable and flower seeds to hand out for free. Native plants attract pollinators, Birds, bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and humming bees. Michael Kolenut of Lincoln Landscaping and Donna Osborne of Goffle Brook Farms - Hawthorne Green Fair 2018A beautiful Sunday morning, local residents were meandering through various vendors, learning about local history.  A band was also on site to add to this festive atmosphere, and next-door was the Hawthorne farmers market, providing fresh produce and plenty of snacks.

Those in attendance could take a walk around the library grounds and visit booths from a variety of local businesses and organizations, such as Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Animals Need You, Passaic County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCSPCA), Hawthorne Birds by the Green Team, and the Hawthorne Recycling Program.

Hawthorne’s local author Veronica MacDonald Ditko was promoting and selling her first book entitled “A Rock Solid History of Hawthorne, New Jersey.” Children learn best through tangible objects like rocks. The book explores the history of Hawthorne, NJ through rocks and inspires school-aged youngsters to look at their surroundings, learn from what they can touch and see, and search for more.

Also, there were many activities, including: gardening tips from the Hawthorne Garden Club, nutrition and free giveaways from Holistic Nutrition for Life, and education on the protection of black bears and their habitats from Bear Education and Resource (BEAR) Program.
