Roxbury High School – “building ecosystems with organics“
Start Date – Mid Spring of 2015
Client –Â Roxbury N.J. High School
Location – Athletic Playing Fields Roxbury High School
Lincoln landscaping originally started this athletic field turf management program 1 ½ years ago on the Roxbury High School N.J. Boys and Girls Athletic Fields. The playing fields came out of a resting period in the spring which followed a severe grub infestation the previous fall.
Our solution to the grubs was to spray with a cedar oil solution which provides a high level of anthropod and other insect knockdown while its long-term residual tendencies act as a repellent. Its penetration and leaching abilities help promote mortality occurences in subterranean insects such as nematodes and termites and grubs.
This organic program follows certain criteria, those being aggressive aeration of the fields combined with applications of chicken manure fertilizer for nitrogen and also four feedings of soy and molasses. The fields are also overseeded with a blend of tri-rye grass and athletic field blends.
This combined with good cultural practices provide for a superior playing surface on all the fields. Proper cultural practices are inclusive of proper cutting heights combined with proper watering and feeding at regular intervals and proper monitoring of the turf’s health.
For an in-depth look at this successful process and the scope of this transition to organic maintenance from chemical dependence we have provided a video time line of our progress thus far.
